Yeti Timing Chain Plus Water Pump Replacement

vw tsi timing chain worn
Yep. Time for a strengthened upgrade of the dreaded weak VW TSI timing chain.

Regular readers might remember that my Yeti recently had new brakes and new bump stops fitted.
Now let's get a new timing chain kit and new water pump fitted.
And antifreeze.

Only after I bought my Yeti did l learn about the dreaded timing chain issue on TSI engines😟

A rattly sound does appear from my engine for about two seconds on cold start-up then it goes as quiet as a mouse.
Apparently this is all the warning we TSI engine owners get. The timing chain has probably stretched!

The next thing to happen is the chain either jumps a cog or snaps altogether

New engine time!
I bought the strengthened timing chain set and water pump online. The genuine VAG part number is 03F198158B.

The mechanic needs my Yeti for most of a full day.
I dropped her off yesterday afternoon, right after her monthly jet wash.

Come 5:15 pm today I’m at his workshop and it’s all over.

My Yeti has had her surgery

Total cost for the new timing chain kit, new water pump, antifreeze plus fitting, with my service book updated and stamped, came in at 7,750 CZK – around £259.
And the casualty list…

My Yeti feels more responsive on the drive home, but maybe I'm imagining that

If you have a Yeti aged between 2009 and 2011 you should also be listening out for any tappety sounds coming from your engine.
If you’re not keen on paying dealer/garage/mechanic marked-up prices for your timing chain kit or water pump then think about buying them yourself and pay a trusted mechanic to fit them for you, as I did.
If you also want the VW strengthened timing chain the part number is: 03F198158B
Good luck and thanks for visiting.
The timing chain kit is available here on Amazon
And a water pump  for the Yeti is here on Amazon

Need something else for your Yeti?

Just a heads up: many of my posts contain affiliate links of products I have bought for my Yeti.
If you buy something from one of these links, you will not pay a penny more.
I will get a small commission, although not every time.
The extra pennies help me to pay the annual cost of the domain name.
I thank you for your support.
