Skoda Yeti Overview

The Skoda Yeti or Type 5L is a 5-seater, 5-door mini SUV manufactured by Skoda Auto, a Czech car manufacturer. In March 2009, Skoda Yeti was introduced at Geneva Motor Show as the first entry in the SUV market. It was then announced in late 2010 that the car will be produced in China by Shanghai VW by 2013.

Skoda Yeti is available in two different variants in India: the Ambiente and Elegance. But in UK, it is available in four variants, namely: Elegance, E, S and SE. The Varioflex rear seats aid its luggage capacity which range from 405 liters to 1760 liters if the rear seats are removed.

Safety

The EuroNCAP awarded the Skoda Yeti with 5-star rating. It scored 92% on adult occupant protection in side and frontal crash test, 46% in pedestrian safety, 78% for child occupant protection and 71% for Safety Assist equipment due to its driver and passenger seatbelt reminder. Skoda Yeti comes with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR), Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA) and Electronic Differential Lock (EDL). This features are a standard equipment on most models but optional in some. The protection from whiplash injury is great.

Most engines have 6-speed manual transmission and the 5-speed manual is reserved for front wheel drive cars only with 81 kW TDI engine. There’s also 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG), which is ordered only for the 1.2 TSI. The 6-speed (DSG) is available for 2.0 CR 103 PS diesel engine in May 2010.

The 4-wheel drive variants uses the latest fourth generation Haltex Multiplate clutch to put the drive on the rear wheels and also the fully independent multi-link rear suspension are all included in the layout, which is first seen in Volkswagen Golf Mk5 to enhance to independent front suspension.
