Interior

The Skoda Yeti in India has two variants to offer, the Skoda Yeti Ambiente and Elegance. This Ambiente is the base variant which is finished in leather upholstery with MP3 player with 8-speakers. The Elegance has the audio system of the Bolero with 6 CD changer, 12 speakers and a wooden finish on its dashboard.

The interior has black and beige tone. The beige color tone makes the inside look bigger. It is also chrome surround and has twin-dial instrument cluster. The Ambiente doesn’t have climatronic control. The Elegance has audio control on the steering wheel which is not found in Ambiente. The seats are really comfortable and you can detach them if you want a bigger space for luggage or just anything you want to put in there.

Engine

Skoda Yeti is powered by a 2.0 liter common rail diesel engine. This engine can generate 140bhp power and maximum torque of 320Nm. The oil burner clatters when starting which is a typical character of a Volkswagen but it becomes quiet as it warms up. The response of the engine is very linear with enough power even before the turbo is set. All 320 Nm is reached after the turbo kicks in. A 100kph is reached in 11.8 seconds.

Transmission

Skoda Yeti comes with sleek 6-speed manual transmission to transmit power on all of its 4 wheels by fourth generation Haldex Traction multi-plate clutch. The shifts are quick and positive. The gears are good for the highway and city driving.

Fuel Efficiency

The fuel efficiency of Skoda is claimed to reach 17 kpl. A mileage of 12.96 kpl can be reached when doing a mix of highway driving and city driving and can reach to 18.24 kpl on highway driving which considered the best.

Verdict

On road price for Skoda Yeti can be 16-18 lakhs and considering its styling, quality, off-roading capability and practicality, this is a good deal for its price. Skoda Yeti is a compact SUV and it is really easy to drive and park in the city. Buying a Yeti is money well spent. It’s not just a lifestyle SUV but an everyday car as well.

Skoda Yeti is a combination of an off-roader and a small hatchback but it is labeled as a crossover with similar vein features to Nissan Qashqai and is also compared to Honda CR-V and Ford Kuga. You may not know it but Skoda Yeti is also a mix of affordability and running costs with extra practicality in a stylish 4×4.

Creating the Skoda Yeti is a great success and it’s best as a family car because it’s roomy and versatile. Four adults can occupy this SUV with so much space left and has big legroom for the passengers at the back plus a large boot. Yeti is tall in shape which helps with headroom making the cabin spacious and feels light. This is a must car for long journey.

It’s available as a four wheel drive and is really useful in slippery roads. But it’s really surprising how this Yeti handles the rough off-road terrain. It’s like a huge SUV that doesn’t even struggle. It has a responsive steering, positive gear change and good body control. And due to the superb engine, handling, and steering, it’s so much easier to drive in a busy city even when parking.

The overall performance should be credited to the 2.0 TDI engine and has a turbo charger which even more increases its performance and fuel economy.

The latest variants of Skoda Yeti have a new feature called Downhill Assistant. It is a new function which enables the driver to have a complete control when going down on an extremely steep hill. Skoda Yeti is excellent in both on and off-road drivability due to the fourth generation Haldex clutch system and 180mm ground clearance. Skoda is an all in one SUV which is required by all. It has low carbon emission, fuel efficient, outstanding flexibility, economical running cost, less environment impact and great practicality. These are all the hallmarks of a crossover vehicle.

The Skoda Yeti or Type 5L is a 5-seater, 5-door mini SUV manufactured by Skoda Auto, a Czech car manufacturer. In March 2009, Skoda Yeti was introduced at Geneva Motor Show as the first entry in the SUV market. It was then announced in late 2010 that the car will be produced in China by Shanghai VW by 2013.

Skoda Yeti is available in two different variants in India: the Ambiente and Elegance. But in UK, it is available in four variants, namely: Elegance, E, S and SE. The Varioflex rear seats aid its luggage capacity which range from 405 liters to 1760 liters if the rear seats are removed.

Safety

The EuroNCAP awarded the Skoda Yeti with 5-star rating. It scored 92% on adult occupant protection in side and frontal crash test, 46% in pedestrian safety, 78% for child occupant protection and 71% for Safety Assist equipment due to its driver and passenger seatbelt reminder. Skoda Yeti comes with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR), Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA) and Electronic Differential Lock (EDL). This features are a standard equipment on most models but optional in some. The protection from whiplash injury is great.

Most engines have 6-speed manual transmission and the 5-speed manual is reserved for front wheel drive cars only with 81 kW TDI engine. There’s also 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG), which is ordered only for the 1.2 TSI. The 6-speed (DSG) is available for 2.0 CR 103 PS diesel engine in May 2010.

The 4-wheel drive variants uses the latest fourth generation Haltex Multiplate clutch to put the drive on the rear wheels and also the fully independent multi-link rear suspension are all included in the layout, which is first seen in Volkswagen Golf Mk5 to enhance to independent front suspension.

Exterior

Skoda Yeti is balance in both off and on the road. It comes with durable black protective moldings at the front, rear and its sides. It doesn’t only protect from scrapes but is a proof of a new breed crossover vehicle. The front fog lights are raised from its normal position to improve visibility and prevent damage from scratches and bumps on uneven terrain. The raised height lets the driver see more of its surroundings which enables to see any obstacles beforehand like pedestrians or tree roots.

Park Assist

The park assist helps to reduce scrapes, bumps and parking stress on a busy street.

Off-road button

An off-road button can be enabled to maintain control over off-road conditions.

Interior

The interior cabin of Skoda Yeti is spacious, flexible and airy and has a lot of features it can offer for safety, comfort and entertainment. Also, Yeti has taken safety seriously so the driver and passenger’s front and side are equipped with airbags as well.

Seating

Yeti’s rear seating system is designed cleverly with various seating solutions to suit your needs. All 3 seats are able to recline with other outer seats and move backward and forward depending on your comfort. Seats can be folded, rolled up or removed completely if you want a large space for your luggages.

Stereo

The stereo comes with 6 CD stereo system with MP3 connections with touchscreen giving you great entertainment in the car.

Business

It has Bluetooth, leather seats, cruise control and steering wheel making Skoda Yeti give a choice for the user.

Boot Space

The boot space is great for luggage storage, shopping, sporting kit, pushchairs, gardening equipment, etc.

Air-conditioning

Skoda Yeti has a manual air conditioning for temperature control. The Elegance model has dual-zone air conditioning which enables the driver and passenger to choose from 6 different temperatures.
